Fiorentina Coach Stefano Pioli admits he hasn’t had an offer of a new contract but “it’s not my priority, nor is it what I’m looking for”.
The Viola have won every game since the tragic death of their captain Davide Astori, leading to speculation they could look to tie the tactician down for the long-term.
“I like the current squad very much, at this point in my career I want to coach for fun, and I want to do it with a group of lads who can go beyond their limits,” Pioli said in his pre-Roma Press conference.
“I had a lot of doubts about some players, they’re changing my mind positively. I want to do the best for my players when they go onto the pitch, then next year we’ll try to improve on wherever we finish this year.
“A new contract? I haven’t had any signals in that direction, but it’s not my priority, nor is it what I’m looking for.
“I just want to finish this season as well as possible and, what’s more, I still have another year on my contract.
“All I expect from the club is a beautiful and clear project.”
Fiorentina face a trip to Roma tomorrow, and Pioli also looked ahead to that game.
“We’re in a good position in terms of performances and results. The first game taught us a lot, we’ll face a strong opponent who have a lot of solutions but could give us chances in attack.
“We’ll face a strong and motivated team, the 4-1 defeat to Barcelona doesn’t do justice to how Roma played at Camp Nou.
“We have to approach the game with the desire to give our all.”
