Stefano Pioli believes Fiorentina are “going beyond our limitations and team spirit makes the difference” after their win away to Roma.

The Viola have notched together six consecutive Serie A victories, their best run since April 1960, including today’s 2-0 success at the Olimpico.

“It’s an important victory, especially considering the quality of the opposition,” Pioli told Mediaset Premium.

“We approached it well and were under the right about of pressure, as it was inevitable Roma would come back at us, but we deserved the points for our hard work and dedication.

“It wasn’t our best performance and there were too many misplaced passes, but the team spirit is what makes the difference. We are going beyond our limitations. We knew it would require an incredible effort and we achieved it.”

Giovanni Simeone said the Fiorentina squad found a new unity and commitment after the tragic death of captain Davide Astori on March 4.

“Davide is with us, every day. He is in our hearts and in our heads. We made a promise: give our all, just as he always did. I am discovering players all over again. Everyone deserves to play and it makes it tough for me to decide on a starting XI.

“It would also be reductive to say that it’s all down to team spirit, because the club – albeit a little late in the day – provided a quality squad, many of them new to Italian football. We’ve improved and grown, we’re laying the foundations for a strong Fiorentina in future.”
