Torino are in mourning after the death of Sauro Tomà, the member of the Grande Torino squad who missed the tragic Superga flight.

The squad dominated Italian football for years, but was wiped out by a plane crash as they flew back from a friendly against Benfica on May 4, 1949.

There were no survivors, including several famous Italian sports reporters.

Full-back Tomà did not take part in the match, and therefore missed that flight, due to a knee injury.

Renato Gandolfi, their reserve goalkeeper, also skipped the trip to Lisbon and died in 2011 at the age of 83.

Tomà was the only remaining member of the Grande Torino team and he died today at the age of 92.
