The Bianconeri were 3-0 up, having lost the first leg 3-0, and 30 seconds away from forcing extra time in the Champions League quarter-final when the decisive incident occurred.

“Was it a penalty? Yes, Cristiano Ronaldo knocked the ball to me near the penalty spot and, just as I was about to finish it off, the centre-back came from behind me and ran me down. There’s no question about it,” Vazquez told BeIN Sport.

“Juve’s protests were normal, it was the last minute. Tonight needs to be a lesson for us. Whoever relaxes, pays for it. The Champions League forgives no-one.

“We knew we had to suffer until the end and our goal puts us in the semi-finals, which is the most important thing.”

Real Madrid are in the semi-finals along with Roma, Bayern Munich and Liverpool.

“We must be prepared for whoever we get and face them with the best possible motivation. We’re going for the Final.”
