Roma staged one of the greatest comebacks in European football history on Tuesday, overturning a 4-1 deficit against Barcelona to end a 34-year wait for a place in the last four.

The Giallorossi’s official website accidentally advertised tickets for a hypothetical semi-final with Liverpool before the draw was made, and the two sides famously contested the 1984 European Cup Final.

The Reds prevailed 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at the Olimpico, where they also beat Borussia Monchengladbach in the corresponding fixture seven years earlier.

Roma have also won just one of their five previous meetings with Liverpool, scoring only two goals.

Madrid, meanwhile, needed a 98th-minute penalty to overcome Juventus and have been dealt their seventh European semi-final against Bayern, whose Coach Jupp Heynckes led Los Blancos to victory over the Bianconeri in the 1998 Champions League Final.

Roma will play their first leg at Anfield on Tuesday April 24, before the return leg on Wednesday May 2, with Bayern-Madrid across April 25 and May 1.
