“A difficult match awaits us and SPAL bring many risks with them,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“We are facing a team in good shape, who hold the field well and are able to create chances. I don’t think there’s the risk of my team underestimating them, because SPAL have been so impressive.

“It is a very important match for us, to prove our worth and enjoy this positive moment. It takes patience to break SPAL down and understand the right moments of the game, while set plays can be crucial.”

SPAL Coach Leonardo Semplici is from Florence and a committed Viola supporter, so could his future be at the Stadio Franchi?

“It’s my destiny,” replied Pioli. “When I was at Lazio, it seemed as if Giovanni Simeone was ready to return at any moment, when I was at Inter there were constantly names circulating.

“I wish Leonardo all the best from Monday, that he can make any dream come true. I also wish the same for myself.”

Fiorentina have climbed the table with six consecutive victories and become contenders for a Europa League spot.

“Dreams are wonderful, but we must also be realistic and stick to the present. We’ve got to give our all and hope this period runs for as long as possible.

“If we want to give some meaning to our victory over Roma, we need to keep that going and do well tomorrow.”

The Fiorentina run started after the tragic and sudden death of 31-year-old captain Davide Astori and this week several members of the club, including Pioli, got a tattoo of his initials and shirt number to have him there forever: #DA13.

“I struggle not to think about that moment. It’s true that the team didn’t just grow from there, as the results speak clearly, but the club put us in the best condition to work and I am fortunate to train a group of fine professionals.

“One of our objectives at the start of the season was to recreate that enthusiasm among the fans. We’re very proud and happy to have them behind us all the way.”
