Simone Inzaghi felt Lazio reacted well with a draw against Roma and “won’t hide our ambition” to qualify for the Champions League.

This 0-0 stalemate was just three days after the 4-1 defeat to RB Salzburg, where they threw away a 5-2 aggregate lead.

“I have to compliment my lads, as it wasn’t easy in the circumstances, but we did well to react to Thursday’s Europa League exit,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“With a little more sharpness in the final third, we could’ve won the game, but apart from the final 10 minutes down to 10 men and that Bruno Peres effort, we weren’t particularly threatened.

“Up until Stefan Radu’s red card, we were right in there, but we played on Thursday evening and only returned home on Friday, so it was inevitable we’d tire towards the end.

“Thursday was a stain on our season, but that cannot cancel out nine great months. We won the Italian Super Cup, reached the Coppa Italia semi-final and only went out on penalties, reached the Europa League quarter-final.

“We’re still in third place and with a different deflection on that Adam Marusic chance, we could’ve won the match.

“I have played Felipe Anderson and Luis Alberto together, they generally play separately, but I am very happy with both of them.”

The Aquile remain in joint third place with Roma, still ahead of Inter, in the fight for a Champions League spot.

“Perhaps Lazio aren’t expected to be up there, but after 32 rounds we clearly earned our chance and we’ll play our cards as best we can.

“Before the season began, most people didn’t even think we’d be in the top seven. I understand we lost some important players, but we brought in very good ones too.

“We’re up there now, we won’t hide our ambition and will give our all to the end.”
