The English media reacts to Liverpool’s 5-2 win over Roma, with most believing that the Reds will reach the Champions League final in Kiev.

The Giallorossi were 5-0 down at Anfield, but two late goals had the Italian press seeing glimmers of hope.

However, the Guardian writes that Jurgen Klopp’s side can start planning for the final in Kiev “barring an almost implausible feat of escapology from Roma”, with Daniel Taylor concluding “surely Liverpool will not blow it from this position”.

The Times was full of praise for former Lupi man Mo Salah, who scored twice and provided a further two assists.

“Even an Italian back line could not live with him,” their match report reads.

“Juan Jesus, a defender who has played for Brazil, was reduced to a nervous wreck. Salah kept running at Jesus, twisting him this way and that, wrong-footing him, exhausting him mentally and physically until the left-sided centre back looked broken.”

Coach Eusebio Di Francesco also came in for criticism, with Henry Winter writing “if Roma had done their homework on Liverpool, the dog must have eaten it because there was no evidence at Anfield”.

The Daily Mail described it as “the Mo show”, calling Salah’s evening “arguably the greatest performance by an individual for an English club side in Europe”.

However, the newspaper cautions “it is not over. Not quite”.

The Sun called Liverpool’s performance “remarkable, and quite frankly ridiculous” but “when Salah was substituted, Liverpool lost their rhythm”.

They concluded though that the Reds “are far too good to toss away a 5-2 lead”.
