Empoli Coach Aurelio Andreazzoli and President Fabrizio Corsi are celebrating their promotion into Serie A after just one season.

Today’s 1-1 draw with Novara proved enough to get the party started at the Stadio Castellani.

“We’ve done good work and I am satisfied,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia before he was doused in champagne.

Andreazzoli achieved something remarkable, as he only took over on December 17 after Vincenzo Viviani was fired.

Andreazzoli is best known for his caretaker role at Roma after Zdenek Zeman was fired, taking them to the Coppa Italia Final in 2013.

He managed to go unbeaten on the Empoli bench, with 13 wins and four draws, scoring 41 goals and conceding only 15.

“It wasn’t easy, as everyone around us was quite sceptical when I arrived, but we were able to slowly win the fans over. When I first came here, I said that I hadn’t yet worked in Serie B as a Coach and now I’ve won the title.

“There are so many components to this victory and the most difficult part for me as a Coach was to win over the players. We created a real team unit and managed to rush through the process.”

President Fabrizio Corsi was on the pitch to join in the promotion celebrations.

“Andreazzoli was the real protagonist of this march towards promotion in the second half of the season, but the victory was down to everyone in the group.

“We directors performed a miracle by restructuring the squad, with the Coach and his staff getting the best out of them. We put four goals past Perugia, Palermo, Parma and Frosinone.

“We had ambitions, but even we didn’t believe we’d achieve something so incredible,” the patron told Sky Sport Italia.

“This is the fifth time Empoli have won Serie B in my tenure. Our great strength, as always, is in the youth academy or by finding talents in the lower divisions.

“If anyone has any ideas, I warn you, Andreazzoli is under contract. I hired Luciano Spalletti when he was unknown and tonight we’re cheering him on as Inter welcome Juventus.”
