The bizarre Derby d’Italia had five goals, two comebacks and a red card after just 17 minutes for Matias Vecino, but among the more controversial situations was Pjanic avoiding a second yellow card for clattering into Rafinha.

“My first booking wasn’t right, but I understood because an Inter player had just been sent off. The stadium was putting a lot of pressure on the referee and calling for the red,” the Bosnian told Sky Sport Italia.

“We should’ve controlled the situation better. Winning like this is the best thing, because it boosts us and hurts the others. We did our best to throw it away in the second half and Inter showed great pride by fighting back, but we want this Scudetto and we proved it.

“Clearly there is fatigue at this stage of the season, and I’ve played many games, but the team needs me. I’ll give my all to reach the final objective.

“I’m suspended against Bologna, so I’ll make the most of this week to train and get my fitness levels back up. We have to win every game and fatigue cannot be an excuse.”
