Massimo Moratti has advised Inter against replacing Coach Luciano Spalletti, despite failing to qualify for the Champions League.

The Nerazzurri’s chances of finishing in the top four are now very slim, as the gap from Roma and Lazio opened up to four points with three rounds left.

“Lazio and Roma had more consistency throughout the campaign and they deserve a lot of credit for that,” the former President told FCInterNews.it.

“Even though those two teams both had to deal with European competition as well, but perhaps that helped more than hindered them.

“I think Spalletti is a very good Coach, aside from a slight criticism I have of his decisions against Juventus, but I make that as a fan and not an expert. I don’t think that changing the Coach would be the right choice.

“Inter did well down to 10 men against Juventus. I wouldn’t have removed Mauro Icardi five minutes from the end, but I am not a Coach and the Coach probably had his reasons for doing so.

“In the eyes of a fan, that change removed a lot of quality from the squad.”

There are concerns that failure to get into the Champions League will result in Inter selling some of their star names.

“I don’t know, perhaps it won’t come to that. It is certainly a pity not to be in the Champions League.”
