Gennaro Gattuso has urged Milan to play with ‘the right head and maximum effort’ when they face Verona in Serie A on Saturday.

Milan take on Juventus in the Coppa Italia Final just four days after, but Gattuso made it clear his side could not afford to drop more points against Verona, who thrashed them 3-0 back in December.

“A week ago, these walls still trembled,” the Coach said at a Press conference.

“We mustn’t repeat the mistakes we made against Benevento. We can’t go wrong. Our priority must be tomorrow and then we’ll have four days to prepare for Juventus.

“History tells us that we struggle against the smaller teams. We need the right head and maximum effort. Our heads mustn’t be on the Bianconeri.

“Let’s remember the mush they fed us with the 3-0 defeat. We must first remind ourselves that we’ve always struggled against them.

“Still, I’ve seen a great intensity in training, as well as physical and mental freshness. Now I’m focused on finishing the season, without listening to all the chatter.

“The market and strikers are being talked about, but for all of us, there’s only the objective of ending the season with a bang, doing something important. After that, we’ll see.

“We mustn’t think about being in a bad way physically. No-one’s brilliant with three games remaining, but they require desire and mentality from us.

“I haven’t forgotten about where we started and what condition we were in. Now we have to understand our strength and objectives.

“VAR? It erases misunderstandings and it works. I don’t understand how UEFA can hurt itself [by not using it]. There’s money at stake and a lot in general.

“It’s something that works, so why not have it in European competitions? I’d like to say many things, but it’s not for me to judge. I’m the Milan Coach.

“I don’t understand what goal-line referees do. You can’t see anything from where they’re standing. It’s a grey area.

“It may be true that we’re looking for elements of experience, but that’s not enough. I look for leaders and people who know how to play football.

“Injuries? Biglia is a lunatic, he always wants to run and make himself available. The others are training, yet there he is on the sidelines spurring them on and that’s what I go to look for.

“He’s still not fit, but he wants to recover, I don’t think we can take too many risks for the Final. His mentality is one of a champion and for me, he’s a crucial player.

“Romagnoli’s done everything with his teammates. He can play tomorrow, but we'll see.”
