Carlo Tavecchio confirms Giampiero Ventura “got his full salary” when he was sacked as Italy CT after the World Cup debacle.
The Azzurri failed to qualify for Russia 2018, but the Coach refused to resign with a contract which ran until 2020.
The FIGC had to sack him, with Tavecchio then resigning from his post as President.
“Was Ventura my biggest mistake?” the former FIGC chief considered in an interview with SportItalia.
“No, no. We found ourselves at [CONI President Giovanni] Malago’s house and this decision on Ventura was made with another person, [Marcello] Lippi.
“Then the facts regarding Lippi [who couldn’t take a role due to his agent son] weren’t made clear to me in an objective way.
“Everyone was happy with Ventura, without exception, so much so that we had a dinner to discuss this subject.
“I think Ventura got it wrong from a technical point of view, and from a political and ethical point of view he had to resign that evening.
“Clearly his assessments were different from mine. He took all the money from his salary.”
