The issue of whether Stefan de Vrij should play for Lazio during their potential Champions League decider against Inter has caused division.

Widespread reports on Thursday claimed De Vrij had signed a four-year contract with Inter, yet Lazio host the Nerazzurri in their final game of the season, with both sides battling it out to finish in Serie A’s top four.

Giuseppe Wilson, who captained the Aquile to their first-ever Scudetto in 1974, told Gazzetta dello Sport: “It’s a very delicate decision: the only one who knows what is the right thing to do is De Vrij. He must choose and his decision must be respected.”

Former Biancocelesti stopper Sebastiano Siviglia opined: “De Vrij has been playing well, but he’ll be under even more pressure against Inter.

“All eyes will be on him. For this reason, Inzaghi will have to assess him very carefully and understand whether the lad is calm or not.”

However, Wilson’s teammate Vincenzo D’Amico backed the Dutchman to put in a strong performance.

“That game will be Stefan’s business card to his new teammates, fans and bosses,” explained the retired midfielder.

“To present himself as dishonest would be counterproductive for him. In Milan, they’d lose trust in him. I’m convinced he’ll give his best.”
