Kalidou Koulibaly reveals how he felt when Napoli came close to and then lost sight of Juventus, but “next season we want to make history.”

The Partenopei are six points behind Juventus with two rounds to play, their head-to-head record is identical and they’re way behind on goal difference, so the Bianconeri are virtually champions.

“I always believed in the Scudetto, even when we were many points off Juve. I knew we could do it,” the defender told Sky Sport Italia.

He was the one who scored the header from a corner that conquered the Juventus Stadium 1-0, reducing the gap at the top to one point and sparking wild celebrations.

“When I saw the ball in the back of the net, I didn’t realise I’d scored a goal. Then I saw my teammates celebrating and it’s something I will never forget.”

However, just a week later, Juventus beat Inter 3-2 in the final minutes and Koulibaly was sent off in a 3-0 defeat to Fiorentina.

“It was a decisive defeat. Perhaps Maurizio Sarri is right when he said we lost that game in the locker room after Inter-Juve. Subconsciously, we just gave up.

“I didn’t watch the Juve game, but playing right after Juve win is always difficult. We are to blame, but that really did hit us hard. Something happened in our minds and we didn’t have the right reaction in Florence.

“Next season, we must do even more to get this Scudetto. We want to keep growing to take the title, as this city needs it. We want to make history.”
