Juventus boss Max Allegri warned Roberto Mancini can’t be expected to “resolve every problem” with the Italy squad. “Football has to be restructured from the foundations.”

Multiple sources state Mancini will terminate his Zenit St Petersburg contract by mutual consent on Monday and sign for the Nazionale midweek.

“Mancini is a Coach who won a great deal, both within Italy and abroad, so he can be the right man,” Allegri said in a Press conference.

“The problem in Italy is that people think the CT of the Nazionale must resolve every problem. There are other things to be done that the CT on his own cannot resolve.

“Certain decisions need to be made for what the future of Italian football will be and they cannot be fixed in one day, even a year. Since 1970, Italy have always had good results, unfortunately this year we missed out on the World Cup, but it’s an aberration.

“The problem is not the Nazionale, it’s finding the solutions to ensure Italian football gets back to being what it was. First and foremost, we need passion and to make children fall in love with the sport again. In recent years, childhood obesity has soared in Italy and that’s terrifying. We need to get kids back into sport, all sport and not just football.

“Decisions must be made, even if they are unpopular. Football has to be restructured from the foundations.”
