Cagliari forward Joao Pedro has been given a six-month ban after failing two doping tests, meaning he’ll be available in September.

The Disciplinary Commission had requested a four-year ban, but today’s hearing opted for just six months.

Practically all of that will be over the summer, when there are no competitive games for the Sardinians anyway.

Joao Pedro failed two tests for a banned diuretic in February and had been suspended temporarily for three months awaiting the hearing.

He made his comeback as a substitute during Sunday’s 1-0 win away to Fiorentina.

It was decided the banned substance was not cited in a legal integrator, so the player took it unknowingly.

“The player was naïve and we will wait for him until September,” President Tommaso Giulini told RMC Sport.

“I hope he doesn’t stumble into an error like this ever again.”
