“I don’t know if it’s the right decision, but it’s the one I made in good faith and informed the club of circa a month ago, after the game with Cagliari.

“It wasn’t an easy choice to make, because I found people here that I really got on with. I am confident the rapport with President Vigorito, his family, the director of sport Foggia and the staff will continue.

“I have been treated well and on Sunday I was moved to see the fans recognise the hard work the team put in this season. I came to Benevento hoping to save the club from relegation, but all of us could not have done any more. I leave knowing I gave it everything.

“The President treated me like a son and I treated him like a father. As for my future, the club knows who called me.”
