Reports in France say Gianluigi Buffon’s arrival could force Alphonse Areola out of Paris Saint-Germain, with Napoli alert to the situation.
Buffon will leave Juventus when his contract expires on June 30, and there’s an offer on the table from the French champions.
The 40-year-old is yet to decide his future, as he could accept another offer or hang up his gloves to work behind the scenes with Juve or Italy.
If he does join PSG though, L’Équipe believes that Areola could leave the Parc des Princes.
While the Frenchman’s first choice would be to stay, he wants to be a starter and wouldn’t accept being backup to Buffon.
His contract expires at the end of next season, but Areola has warned he’ll only sign an extension if “all the conditions are met”.
That’s believed to refer to his status in the team more than his wages, so Buffon’s arrival could well force him out.
Last season Newcastle United showed interest 25-year-old, and L’Équipe believes manager Rafa Benitez is still an admirer.
In addition, the newspaper reports, Napoli are aware of his situation and are considering him as a replacement for Pepe Reina.
However, PSG would demand at least €20m to sell him.
