Sportitalia claim Chelsea had a marathon meeting with Maurizio Sarri’s entourage and are prepared to pay the €8m release clause in his Napoli contract.
The Coach was fired by Napoli yesterday, making way for Carlo Ancelotti, despite taking them to second place and becoming the first side ever to achieve over 90 Serie A points without winning the Scudetto.
According to Sportitalia pundit Alfredo Pedullà, there was a seven-hour meeting with members of Sarri’s entourage today in London.
It proved positive and they are preparing a two-year contract for Sarri at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is reportedly ready to pay the €8m release clause in his contract.
That clause expires on May 31 and, although Napoli fired Sarri, they could still demand payment to release the tactician.
It has been theorised that David Luiz could be offered as part of an exchange.
This is a complex and costly operation because Chelsea must also negotiate terminating current boss Antonio Conte's contract.
