Daniele Baselli believes new Italy Coach Roberto Mancini is “the right person to start a new era” for the Nazionale.

The Torino midfielder is one of the new faces brought in by Coach Mancini for friendlies against Saudi Arabia, France and the Netherlands.

“We open up a new era with an excellent Coach and being here is a dream come true,” said Baselli in his Press conference.

“Mancini is one of the best around and the right person to begin again. We’ve got to make the most of this opportunity and put Mancini’s indications into practice.

“After failing to qualify for the World Cup, the priority is to start a new era and that will take time, but the many young players in the squad this week show we’re on the right track.

“It’s a childhood dream come true for me and I had been waiting for the Italy call for a long time.”

There are other changes too, most notably the return of Mario Balotelli after four years out of the Nazionale.

“Mario’s presence is nice and he’s such good fun, he keeps everyone amused. I think he fully deserved the call-up.”

Torino improved under Walter Mazzarri this season, as Baselli had some tension with previous Coach Sinisa Mihajlovic.

“I think Torino can make the step forward under Mazzarri. There are regrets after this season, as we lacked consistency, but I am convinced next year will be better.

“We’ve got to start next season where we left off, as Mazzarri helped to improve the team. I like being at the centre of the play with him and I want to continue the growth process at Torino.”
