Fiorentina director Pantaleo Corvino confirms Milan Badelj will not sign a new contract, while Marco Sportiello is also leaving.

Badelj becomes a free agent when his current deal expires on June 30 and it seems as if his Viola career is concluded.

“We proposed the chance to end his career with us through another four-year contract, making an important economic effort,” director general Corvino told reporters at an awards ceremony.

“He always told us it was not a financial issue, but one of facing new challenges. Today we spoke and he told me, sadly, that he wants to try new things elsewhere.

“For us, as a club, Milan has represented certain values and we had a great deal of respect for him. We go our separate ways after an embrace.

“I had already said we would begin again from German Pezzella, Nikola Milenkovic and Cristiano Biraghi in defence. In midfield, we have Marco Benassi and Jordan Veretout, so we’ll find a central midfielder like Badelj.

“In attack, the firm fixtures are Federico Chiesa and Giovanni Simeone, but we are also seeking a wide forward.”

Goalkeeper Sportiello is also on his way out of the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

“Marco is on loan from Atalanta and we have decided to make other choices.”
