Inter hitman Mauro Icardi is first choice at Chelsea for Maurizio Sarri and they could pay his €110m release clause, claims the Corriere dello Sport.
Wednesday’s front page story in the Italian newspaper suggests Sarri has pinpointed Icardi as the ideal reinforcement for their misfiring attack.
Sarri had already wanted the Argentina international at Napoli, but could not meet the asking price, which at the time was €100m.
Icardi now has a release clause in his contract, valid only for a few weeks over the summer and for clubs outside of Italy, set at €110m.
This does depend on Sarri taking the Chelsea job, which is by no means certain with Napoli holding out on his €8m release clause.
Icardi only turned 25 in February, but already has 110 Serie A goals in just 190 appearances.
He was joint Capocannoniere this season with Lazio’s Ciro Immobile on 29 goals in 34 Serie A games.
