Gianluigi Buffon will today learn if he’ll receive an extended suspension from UEFA for his tirade at Michael Oliver.

The goalkeeper was incensed by the referee’s decision to award a penalty against Real Madrid, and was sent off for his protests.

Buffon then continued his diatribe after the match, stating that the official was too inexperienced to handle a match of that magnitude.

The 40-year-old later admitted that he crossed the line, and he has been charged by UEFA for his comments.

The disciplinary committee will meet today, and it’s possible he’ll be given an added sanction on top of his one match ban for the red card.

Both he and Paris Saint-Germain are waiting to see how long the ban will be before signing a two-year contract, and a long ban could cause the deal to collapse.

That’s not thought to be likely, however, as Buffon has never been sent off in Europe before so his previous good behaviour could be taken into account.
