And speaking after featuting in his country’s World Cup warm-up match with Egypt, the 31-year-old made it clear he wishes to continue his career in Spain despite still having two years remaining on his contract at the San Siro.

“My target is to remain in Spain,” Bacca stated. “I still have two years of contract with Milan, but we are talking with Villarreal.

“I was happy there, I hope we do the right thing.”

The former Sevilla striker believes the Rossoneri have done well to secure Europa League qualification but says it will be difficult for them to compete with Serie A’s top clubs next season.

“Milan have changed a lot, a lot of new players with quality have arrived, but they have gotten back into Europe.

“It’s difficult to compete with Roma, Juventus and Napoli. They are working towards getting to that level.”

Bacca is confident he will have an impact for Colombia at the World Cup.

“I’m feeling good, I am working hard to get to the World Cup in good shape.

“We are working step by step, we have great teams waiting for us.”
