Maurizio Sarri has moved up the pecking order for Real Madrid after reports in Spain Mauricio Pochettino was ruled out of the job.

Zinedine Zidane resigned this week after winning three consecutive Champions League trophies, feeling he had achieved everything possible at the Bernabeu.

The first choice was immediately Pochettino, but he only recently signed a new contract with Tottenham Hotspur, who have no intention of releasing him.

According to Cadena Cope this evening, Pochettino has now been ruled out of the running for the position.

Earlier today, an intermediary working with Real Madrid said that Sarri had a “70 per cent chance” of becoming the new Coach.

The former Napoli boss is still under contract, but President Aurelio De Laurentiis is open to negotiations, even if the €8m release clause has expired.

Chelsea were the favourites, but refused to pay the clause and talks appear to have broken down.
