This fixture was postponed from last week, as Bari were docked two points due to financial irregularities after the regular season had concluded.

That put Cittadella ahead of Bari in the table and therefore they had the right to play this one-off match with the home advantage.

It also meant that if the tie ended level after both 90 minutes and extra time, Cittadella would go through as the side with the superior regular season position.

Fabio Grosso’s Bari took the lead straight after the restart with Cristian Galano’s strike from the edge of the box, but it was almost immediately cancelled out by a ferocious Paolo Bartolomei free kick.

Cittadella turned the game around completely to go ahead, again with Bartolomei, this time a volley from outside the penalty area that went in off the upright.

Bari equalised in the final minutes, as Nene’s cross-shot surprised goalkeeper Enrico Alfonso.

It went to extra time and Strizzolo had the best chance to win it for Cittadella, his angled drive stinging Alessandro Micai’s gloves, while Bari’s Antonio Floro Flores curled just past the far post.

Bari’s hopes of winning the tie suffered another blow when ex-Roma defender Norbert Gyomber was sent off for dissent.

The situation deteriorated into a brawl after Franco Brienza also received a straight red card for his blatant kick and began arguing with the opposition bench on his way off.

During the free-for-all, Bari player Stefano Sabelli was also sent off from the bench, as he had already been substituted.
