Grassi is due to return to his parent club in time for the start of pre-season training, but Gianluca Di Marzio claims SPAL are seriously considering spending €8m to sign the 23-year-old outright.

When the initial loan deal was struck for Grassi last summer, Napoli granted SPAL first refusal to buy the Italy U21 international for that figure.

Milan and Fiorentina are also rumoured to be interested in potentially signing Grassi.

Elsewhere, Di Marzio reports that SPAL have made an enquiry to Sampdoria for their veteran defender Matias Silvestre.

With the Blucerchiati strengthening their defensive options this summer, the 33-year-old is likely to find himself further down in the Marassi pecking order.
