The Bologna winger started with Lorenzo Insigne and Jorginho in tonight’s 1-1 friendly draw between Italy and the Netherlands.

“We got on pretty well, but the players can change, the important thing is that the team interprets the style of football the Coach wants,” Verdi told Rai Sport.

“We had several great chances in the first half, started to feel a little tired and still took the lead with Simone Zaza’s goal. It’s a pity that we conceded that late equaliser, as it would’ve been a prestigious win.”

It’s reported Verdi is on the verge of a transfer to Napoli, having turned down an identical move in January when Maurizio Sarri was still at the helm.

“I’ve known Insigne for a while, so we didn’t need to talk today… I’m glad he got to wear the captain’s armband on his birthday and it’s certainly a great signal.

“I have always been consistent, as I said in January that I wanted to end my journey and season with Bologna. It had nothing to do with Napoli, nor did Carlo Ancelotti have anything to do with me saying yes in this transfer session.

“I had a brief chat with Ancelotti, but it was a formal conversation. I already worked with Sarri at Empoli, so I knew him well already.

“I simply wanted to end the season with Bologna and show my gratitude for their support.”
