Ex-Cagliari Coach Diego Lopez has been named as the new manager of Uruguayan club Penarol.
A statement from the side confirmed that he had been chosen “unanimously” by the Board of Directors.
Lopez will hold a presentation event at the Campeon del Siglo stadium on Saturday.
The 43-year-old is from Uruguay, but spent much of his playing and management career in Italy.
He played for Cagliari between 1998 and 2010, then retired and became a Coach in their youth academy.

Lopez also had a year on the Bologna bench in 2014-15 and a brief spell at Palermo in 2017.
Returning to Sardinia in October 2017 to replace sacked Massimo Rastelli, he helped steer them to Serie A safety.
Today, Cagliari appointed Rolando Maran as his replacement and Lopez has already moved on to bigger things with the Uruguayan giants.
