“I chose this project two seasons ago, with humility dropping into Lega Pro. In five minutes, I realised that I could work the way I wanted to,” said Inzaghi in a statement.

“These have been two fantastic years, we will each go our own way, but what we did together can never be cancelled out. We did all we could, achieving remarkable results.

“I will now think about what to do. I received a few offers, but I told everyone to wait until the day after Venezia’s play-offs concluded.

“I don’t know if I’m going to Serie A, but I do know my lads would’ve deserved that chance. I thank the fans, who were always close to us and gave us a big hand.

“I met the President today and at times you have to end on a high, making difficult decisions.”
