“Lovro Majer wants to go to Sampdoria and it’ll happen if they pay €6.5m,” confirmed Lokomotiv Zagreb after he rejected Dinamo Zagreb.
It had been reported over the last few days that that Samp were in advanced negotiations for 20-year-old creative midfielder Majer.
He impressed this season with 11 goals and five assists in 30 competitive games for Lokomotiv Zagreb.
“I just spoke to Lovro and his greatest desire, as things stand, is to go to Italy,” director of sport Bozidar Sikic told Sportske Novosti.
“A transfer to Dinamo is not in his thoughts, as he wants to go to Sampdoria and it’ll happen if they pay the €6.5m we agreed.
“I think it’s a mistake, as he would skip a fundamental passage in his development. I hear people say he turned down Dinamo because his parents support Hajduk Split, but that’s not the truth.
“I do think the transfer can be completed over the next week and it’d be a record sale for our club.”
