Carlos Tevez believes Inter ‘will love’ Lautaro Martinez, who ‘reminds me of myself’ and is ‘by far the best young Argentine’ around.

Martinez will join Inter in a €25m deal later this summer and arrives with a burgeoning reputation, the 20-year-old having scored 17 goals in just 25 appearances for Racing Club last season, as well as being called up to Argentina’s provisional World Cup squad.

“What a player he is,” the former Juventus striker told Corriere della Sera.

“He’s hungry, ruthless and technically gifted. He reminds me of myself a few years ago. Of the young Argentines, he is by far the best and can get even better.

“Inter pulled off a coup by signing him. They’ll love him. Argentina at the World Cup? I hoped I’d make it.

“I went back to Boca from China for it, but then I picked up a muscle injury and I realised I wouldn’t make it.

“I feel that the older you get, it takes longer to recover. Neither can all of us go to the World Cup. Just look at Icardi.

“Mauro’s a top player, but the competition is huge. Dybala and Higuain couldn’t be dropped. I expect a great World Cup from them.”
