Arsenal have officially confirmed the signing of Bernd Leno, who had been a target for Napoli.

The Partenopei were openly courting both the Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper and Rui Patricio of Sporting.

However, after the Portuguese opted to join Wolverhampton Wanderers, his German counterpart will also continue his career in England.

“German goalkeeper Bernd Leno has agreed to join us from Bayer Leverkusen,” the Gunners confirmed on their official website.

“The highly-rated 26-year-old made more than 230 appearances for Leverkusen in more than seven seasons with the Bundesliga side.

“Bernd’s shirt number will be announced in due course. The deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.”

The Partenopei are now thought to be interested in Udinese’s Alex Meret and Salvatore Sirigu of Torino.

Pepe Reina, the current number 1, will join Milan when his contract expires on June 30.
