Speaking to Sportitalia on Tuesday evening, Samp owner Massimo Ferrero dropped his biggest hint yet that Torreira was Arsenal-bound but stood firm over Praet and Fabio Quagliarella, while expressing no bitterness with Daniele Prade’s switch to Udinese.
“Torreira’s gone for €30m,” he told the broadcaster.
“I bought him from Pescara when no-one believed in him. We gambled on him and won, paying just €3m for him.
“The money that comes in will help the club. Praet to Juve? We generally don’t make too many changes.
“Samp are a stepping stone, a family-run club who allow players to grow. It’s normal that they have aspirations of playing for important clubs, but I don’t need to sell anyone.
“He has a release clause of €26m, we don’t make provisions for anyone. We respect the players’ will, but clubs must pay the clauses.
“Prade? He decided to go to Udine because there was a project. I have a good relationship with him, I’m happy and I don’t feel betrayed.
“Quagliarella? It’s without substance, nothing’s started.”
