Former Italy goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano has officially joined Sporting CP from Sampdoria for a reported €2m.

The transfer was confirmed in a statement on Samp’s official website, while Sporting tweeted Viviano had signed a two-year contract with the option for a third and a €45m release clause.

The 32-year-old joined the Blucerchiati in 2014 and made 115 appearances for the club, working under new Leoes boss Sinisa Mihajlovic in his first season.

He replaces Rui Patricio, who was one of the players who terminated their contracts with the Lisbon side after a training-ground attack by masked thugs.
