Tom Ricketts’ family are quoted in Italy as confirming the desire to become a “controlling stakeholder” in Milan.
Today Yonghong Li failed to pay €32m for a capital increase, with Elliott Management ready to step in and pay that.
The current owner has until July 10 to pay that back or lose control of the club, but it’s no secret that he’s looking for investment.
Now MilanoFinanza claims to have had an email from the Ricketts family confirming that the Chicago Cubs owner wants to take over.
“The Ricketts Family (not just Tom) are interested in acquiring a controlling stakeholder in AC Milan [sic],” Andrea Montanari quotes the email as saying.
“While Tom is the point person, the entire family and the family’s financial resources are involved in this matter, just like their ownership of the Cubs.
“The Ricketts Family brought a championship to the Cubs through long term investment and being great stewards of the team, its ballpark, the fans and the city of Chicago. They would bring this same approach to Milan.”
It should be noted that the statement hasn't been made public, and does contain some incorrect English.
