MLS club the Montreal Impact have released midfielder Marco Donadel and could now return to Italy.

The 35-year-old has been in Canada since December 2014, having terminated his Napoli contract by mutual consent.

He had 67 MLS regular season appearances and played in eight MLS Cup Playoff games.

“I want to thank Marco for his contribution to the Montreal Impact, on and off the field,” said Montreal Impact President Joey Saputo in a statement.

A return to Italy could well be on the cards for Donadel, who previously played for Milan, Lecce, Parma, Sampdoria, Fiorentina and Napoli.
