There are extraordinary reports of a ‘coup’ within the Argentina squad to oust Coach Jorge Sampaoli and he could be fired before the Nigeria game.

The Seleccion are in crisis after a 1-1 World Cup draw with Iceland and dismal 3-0 defeat to Croatia.

They simply must beat Nigeria in the final group game, but Sampaoli might no longer be on the bench come Tuesday.

According to TyC Sports, Federation President Claudio Tapia told Sampaoli that he no longer has any control over the players.

It remains to be seen now if he will resign, get the sack or continue on until at least the match with Nigeria.

Sampaoli has come under fire for his decisions and the seeming lack of tactical organisation in the side.

His notes were pictured during training today and seemed to suggest massive changes for the Nigeria game, including a move to four at the back and bringing Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain into the starting XI with Leo Messi and Angel Di Maria.

There is still no room for Paulo Dybala or Roma centre-back Federico Fazio.

The most notable difference is dropping goalkeeper Willy Caballero after his howler against Croatia, starting Franco Armani.

Argentina (probable): Armani; Salvio (Mercado), Otamendi, Rojo, Tagliafico; Enzo Perez, Mascherano, Banega; Messi, Higuain, Di Maria
