Roma legend Giuseppe Giannini believes they should’ve sold Alisson Becker and kept Radja Nainggolan, as the midfielder will join Inter.

Roma legend Giuseppe Giannini believes they should’ve sold Alisson Becker and kept Radja Nainggolan, as the midfielder will join Inter.

The Belgium international is due to complete his transfer to Inter next week for €24m cash plus Davide Santon and Nicolò Zaniolo.

“In football there are eras that begin and end, both for teams and individual players,” Giannini told RMC Sport.

“Roma thought it opportune to sell Nainggolan and bring in younger faces, but it’s disappointing, because he always gave everything he had and never held back.

“At times, club directors have to make drastic decisions. We’ll see if it was a good or bad idea, but we must respect the strategy of the Coach and club.”

With Nainggolan’s exit, Roma are bringing in Javier Pastore from Paris Saint-Germain for €18m plus bonuses.

“He didn’t do that well in Paris, but certainly has quality and hopefully we can see more of the potential he showed at Palermo.”

Goalkeeper Alisson remains in the balance, as €60m offers were turned down from Liverpool, Napoli and Real Madrid.

“Alisson was a protagonist this term and will be again in future. However, I would’ve preferred to sell Alisson and sign another good goalkeeper rather than sell Nainggolan, who is a representative figure for Roma.”
