“What would I do if I had to mark Neymar? I can’t say… but surely I’d have tried to convince him to be a serious person,” the former Juventus stopper told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Zico and Maradona? They were champions who didn’t write scripts. Unlike them, he tries to direct the game on the wrong track.

“I like him, but he’s not on their level yet. He forgets that he should lead by example, but it’s not just him.

“In my time, those who were fouled didn’t magnify the consequences. The other day, I saw someone hit on the shoulder but fell clutching their head…”

His remarks after Neymar was scorned by the global media for his perceived diving antics with Brazil during the Russian showpiece.
