Torino have officially signed Genoa centre-back Armando Izzo for €8m plus bonuses. “I chose Toro because football is joy and pure passion.”
The 25-year-old had also been linked with West Ham United, but opted for the Granata at a cost of €8m plus another €2m in performance-related bonuses.
“First of all, I want to thank President Urbano Cairo and all the people who worked to bring me to Toro,” said Izzo.
“Naturally, I want to dedicate my first thoughts to President Enrico Preziosi and everyone at Genoa, with affection and gratitude.
“I chose and wanted Toro because football for me is joy and pure passion, so to play for such an important club for fans who are so fiery and attached to their team, is an honour that brings with it a great deal of responsibility.
“I am very happy and fired up, so I’ll give all of myself to always be up to the standards of the situation.”
It is a reunion with Coach Walter Mazzarri, who first worked with him at the Napoli Primavera youth team.
