Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira confirmed he can now focus on completing his transfer to Arsenal now Uruguay are out of the World Cup.
A fee has been agreed for around €30m, but the move was postponed due to his international commitments.
“We could have gone about it differently, but I did not want to think about other things,” Torreira told reporters as he returned home from Russia.
“The World Cup is important and being part of this squad meant a lot to me. But now I have more time my future will be very clear.
“The important thing is that I'm happy to have been part of this squad and this World Cup, so I thank all the people who accompanied us.”
The 22-year-old featured in all five Uruguay games during the World Cup, as they went out in the quarter-finals to France.
