The shot-stopper reached the milestone this evening in a Euro 2016 qualifier and it was his 62nd clean sheet.

“The good thing is that my saves helped us to win and get three points. On this evening, in which in my view we played good football, we got the victory and confirmation of top spot in the group,” Buffon told Rai Sport.

“We created a great deal and had many chances to plump out the scoreline, so I think that is the most important point.

“Also we are keeping clean sheets and teams who want to aim high must first of all not concede much.

“We step on to the field and try to do what the Coach tells us. Against Malta, aside from it being a less sparkling performance compared to tonight, we showed organisation and a specific style of football.”
