New signing Fabian made an immediate impact, his fantastic left-foot curler from outside the box flying into the top corner against Serie C side Gozzano.

Marek Hamsik was placed in a more central role, while Alberto Grassi met an Adam Ounas cross to double their lead.

Amadou Diawara went on a powerful run and was brought down for Simone Verdi to convert the Panenka-style penalty.

Ounas got his own goal late on, meeting a smart long ball from Diawara.

“I liked the fact we pressed in attack, but then again this is a team that already knows how to do that well,” Ancelotti told Sky Sport Italia.

“We are training and trying to improve certain things, so we’ll slowly get into a clearer tactical shape. Hamsik has everything it takes to be a midfield playmaker, as he has intelligence and vision, quality of passing. Being close to him will also help Diawara to improve.

“Fabian can cut in from the right to score goals, as we saw, while on the left he can aid the quality of the overall team play and I want him getting accustomed to that role too.”

Ancelotti made his debut on the same day that Sarri signed for Chelsea, so how will this Napoli team change?

“I admired many things about Sarri’s Napoli, from the quality to their unity and defensive organisation. I’ll have to think about how to improve it.

“I have very fond memories of my experience at Chelsea, so I hope Sarri enjoys it the same way. I wish him all the best.”
