Malcom appeared to be on his way to Roma until Barcelona swooped in to sign him at the 11th hour, while sporting director Monchi has already confirmed that the Giallorossi are considering legal action.

“Barcelona intervened in an unethical way,” the club’s President told SiriusXM.

“In the morning, Monchi was in a conference call with his agent and an agreement was made.

“We’ve received legal advice, and it seems Bordeaux will be called to testify. Yesterday Barcelona apologised to us, but I didn’t accept their apologies.

“The only way to accept them is if they decide to give us Messi. Closed relations with Barcelona? No. They’re bigger than us and we’ll have agreements with them in the future.

“Nainggolan? We had to make a decision, there were different aspects to consider, including his age.

“I don’t know all the issues, but Di Francesco decided the time had come [for him to be sold].

“Pastore? We needed a player to distribute balls to all the talents we have in front of him. Alisson? Come on, let’s be serious: 70m is a lot of money.

“Defence? We’re trying to improve how we bring the ball from deep, which we struggled to do last season.

“Trigoria? It’s been totally rebuilt. From what I know, it’s all first class.”
