However, the 23-year-old did not turn up, fuelling speculation he was set for an imminent move to a leading European club.

The likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United and Chelsea have all been heavily linked with the midfielder over the course of the summer.

But speaking to TMW Web, Mateja Kezman insisted Milinkovic-Savic will be back with Lazio by tomorrow, adding his absence today is simply down to missing a flight out of Belgrade this morning due to a road accident causing heavy traffic.

“Sergej missed the flight because of a terrible road accident in Belgrade, which blocked the traffic," Kezman began.

“There are absolutely no problems. He will arrive in Rome tomorrow, start his medical tests and then his preparation.

“I am glad there is so much attention on him, but I really do have a very good relationship with the club.”
