The Croatia international has emerged as an audacious transfer target for the Nerazzurri in the past couple of days.

And respected journalist Gianluca Di Marzio is reporting that initial talks have taken place between San Siro officials and the 32-year-old’s entourage.

Following the negotiations, Inter feel they might have a chance of landing Modric, who captained his country to the final of the recent World Cup.

The player is currently on holiday in Sardinia but will return to Madrid this weekend for pre-season.

And Di Marzio claims that at that point, he will discuss his future with Real President Florentino Perez.

Should he tell the Bernabeu chief of his intention to leave, more formal negotiations will begin between the clubs.

Corriere dello Sport speculates that if Modric does join, the most likely deal would be for an initial loan – with Inter having the option to sign him permanently next summer.

The Nerazzurri yesterday evening confirmed the signing of Modric’s international teammate, full-back Sime Vrsaljko, from Atletico Madrid.
