Kevin Mirallas says he has joined Fiorentina to win trophies and at a time when Serie A ‘has returned to the very top levels’.

Mirallas was unveiled by Fiorentina on Wednesday, having arrived from Everton on loan with an option to buy, and the Belgium winger expressed plenty of intent at his presentation.

“I could’ve joined two years ago, but Everton wanted too much for me,” he began.

“Competition is good, I like playing for a good team. Every training session will be like a war to win a place in the team.

“I’m also here to show I can give a lot in Italy. There’s a good project at Fiorentina and I want to play in Serie A, a League that has returned to the very top levels.

“Fiorentina is a very important club, everyone has spoken well about them to me, including my friend Mertens, who I’ve known for many years.

“He told me that here, if you give everything you’ll be given plenty of love. I’ll try to make that happen.

“Myy wife is also Italian and that helped me decide. When I heard that there was this possibility, I immediately said ‘yes’.

“I was at Everton for six years. Five of them were beautiful, but the last one didn’t go well. It happens in relationships…

“Neither was it a simple season for me back in Greece, but that’s football. I’m not looking for revenge or redemption, I just want to show my worth here.

“I’ve seen many of Fiorentina’s matches and the impact they made on me was immediately positive.

“There’s an attacking mentality here and my new teammates immediately passed the ball to me [in training]. That’s always important for a new player.

“I want to help this team and my new teammates. Maybe I’ll be able to win something here too.

“My footballing idol? Raul [Gonzalez], even if we have different roles. He’s always been an inspiration for me.”

The Viola have not won any silverware for 17 years, last lifting the Coppa Italia in 2001.
