Courtois has long been linked with Madrid, while Kovacic has spent the summer forcing an exit from the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Croatian previously played for Inter and had been tipped for a return to Serie A but will instead form a new-look midfield alongside Jorginho and N’Golo Kante under Sarri.

The 24-year-old moves to West London on a dry loan, while the Belgium goalkeeper will sign for Los Blancos permanently.
